ARCHITECTURE AS TOY,
TOY AS ARCHITECTURE

SOFT SPACE is a cross-disciplinary team specializing in innovative architectural art, dedicated to integrating architecture and art to create joyful and meaningful spaces for all. The team is composed of architects, engineers, project managers, brand and multimedia designers, and aims to deliver immersive and creative experiences through artistic interventions and spatial interaction.

The team also includes renowned architect Manfred Yuen, who was recognized as one of the world’s top 100 architects under the age of 40. Since 2018, he has been actively engaged in inflatable art, transforming architectural spaces into playful and interactive artistic environments.

SPACE INTRUSION

Building for Humanity, Beyond the Elite

Architecture should be strong and blend shelter with beauty, as Vitruvius noted. Practitioners often face challenges balancing ideals with practical concerns like materials, budgets, and the environment. Architecture is serious work, and it requires effort. However, we sometimes forget that architecture should serve humanity, not just cater to grand buildings like churches, airports, and museums for the elite.

INFLATABLE ART

Designing Spaces for Happiness: Empowering the Everyday Person

If architecture is to serve humanity, especially the "little man," as Alvar Aalto described, our role as architects should focus on using our skills for this purpose. A few years ago, we started exploring how physical spaces could directly contribute to people's happiness. We considered how softer, more flexible environments might help individuals feel calm, free, and connected to their inner innocence. Only those who feel liberated can truly be happy.

PUBILC ART

Embracing Simplicity in Design

The large inflatable architectural "toys" we've created are fundamentally simple and even lack specific functions. Our vision is for people to engage with these expansive spaces and rediscover themselves. Once, when given a piece of paper or plasticine, people could create amazing things and find joy in the ordinary. These simple objects, like toys or art, can spark happiness and creativity.
