Inspired by the spatial transformations of urban renewal, "A Flower in the City’s Narrow Gaps" emerges as a vibrant symbol of vitality and resilience. This giant flower, blooming gracefully within a stairwell, invites passersby to pause and reflect on the interplay between space and art in their everyday lives. The inflatable art installation seamlessly fills architectural voids, engaging in a dynamic dialogue with its surroundings. The flower's imagery captures the essence of conflict and symbiosis in urban development, awakening public contemplation on how we utilize space and the role of public art, becoming a cultural catalyst for urban metamorphosis.
This project is designed and constructed by SOFT SPACE, and also features a collaboration with lighting designer Nathan Wong, who integrates traditional neon industrial elements with modern artistic vocabulary to showcase the potential for sustainable urban innovation. Neon lights, as symbols of Hong Kong's unique urban landscape and cultural memory, are reinterpreted through an artistic lens to construct a new visual narrative for contemporary Hong Kong.
