Manfred is the founder of Groundwork Architecture + Urbanism, London in 2007, co-founder of Groundwork Architects + Associates, Hong Kong cofounded the Groundwork Shenzhen office in 2018. Since 2007, apart from his practice, Manfred served as a visiting lecturer attheKingston University, London, Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, teaching architecture design and history.
Prior to the founding of Groundwork, Manfred received his architectural training at the University of Cambridge and the University of Hong Kong (with First Class Honour). Manfred had worked with Pentagram Design(London), Coop-Himmelb(l)au, Vienna, where he was responsible for their operations in China.
Manfred is serving as adviser for various organizations, such as the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Oxfam International, Scout Association,Shenzhen Women Federation, HongKongDesignTrust, Japan Sky Award.
Some of his notable awards include the "40-under-40 Design Talents/Asia" (2011) " The Next Generation Architects, Backstage Architecture, Italy" (2010), and the 40 under 40 FA Emerging Chinese Architects (2019). Manfred is also the recipient of the Spirit of Hong Kong 2013 Award, an award that celebrates the achievements of remarkable Hong Kong people who make our city a better place.
In 2019, Manfred was invited to give a TEDX talk at Shenzhen advocating humanistic and socially responsible architecture.
